Frequently asked questions

My progress disappeared after reinstalling the app.

Align & Reveal saves your puzzle history, streaks, and stars locally on your device. Deleting and reinstalling the app removes that local data. If you were signed in with iCloud, the app also keeps a backup in your iCloud Key-Value Store and will restore your progress the next time it launches — make sure iCloud Drive is enabled in your device Settings and you're signed in with the same Apple ID.

My daily streak reset even though I played yesterday.

Streaks roll over at local midnight. If your device's time zone changed (travel, daylight saving, manual clock change), the day boundary can shift unexpectedly. You also have two streak freezes per month — if a freeze didn't apply when you missed a day, please email me a screenshot of your Stats screen and I'll take a look.

Hints aren't working.

Hints are limited per puzzle and rebuild slowly over time. If the hint button is greyed out, you've used your quota for that puzzle. Finishing the puzzle or starting a new one resets it.

The painting I want isn't in the gallery.

The collection grows over time — over a hundred paintings ship with v1.0, with more added in updates. If there's a specific work or artist you'd love to restore, send me an email and I'll add it to the queue.

How do I change the difficulty?

Every puzzle can be played at five grid sizes from 5×5 to 8×8. Tap a painting in the gallery and pick a grid size from the selector before you start. Your personal best is tracked separately for each size.

The narratives sometimes feel general or wrong.

The four short beats shown alongside each painting are AI-assisted and grounded in the work's art-historical record. If you spot something incorrect, please email me the painting title and what's off — I read every report and correct the source data directly.

Can I play on iPad?

The app runs on iPad, but v1.0 is designed for iPhone. An iPad-native layout is on the roadmap.

What data does the app collect?

None of it leaves your device, aside from anonymous Game Center scores if you've signed in. There are no analytics, no ad SDKs, no third-party trackers. See the Privacy Policy for the full breakdown.
